All major browsers support the rel attribute.
Definition and Usage
The rel attribute is required, and specifies the relationship between the current document and the linked document/resource.
Differences Between HTML 4.01 and HTML5
In HTML5, some values from HTML 4.01 were removed, and some new values were added.

Attribute Values
| Value | Description |
|---|---|
| alternate | Links to an alternative version of the document (such as a print page, translation, or mirror). |
| author | Links to the author of the document. |
| help | Links to a help document. |
| icon | Imports an icon representing the document. |
| license | Links to copyright information for the document. |
| next | Indicates that the document is part of a collection, and the next document in the collection is the referenced document. |
| prefetch | Specifies that the target resource should be cached. |
| prev | Indicates that the document is part of a collection, and the previous document in the collection is the referenced document. |
| search | Links to a search tool for the document. |
| stylesheet | The URL of the style sheet to import. |
