HTML <ruby>Tag

Browser Support

IE 9+, Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Safari support the <ruby> tag.

Note:IE8 or earlier versions of IE do not support the <ruby> tag.

Tag Definition and Usage

The <ruby> tag defines a ruby annotation (Chinese phonetic notation or characters).

Used in East Asia, it displays the pronunciation of East Asian characters.

Use the <ruby> tag together with<rt>and<rp>the tag:
The <ruby> element consists of one or more characters that need explanation/pronunciation and an <rt> element that provides that information, and also includes an optional <rp> element that defines what to display when the browser does not support the "ruby" element.

Differences Between HTML 4.01 and HTML5

The <ruby> tag is a new tag in HTML5.
