Browser Support

IE 9, Firefox, Opera, Chrome, and Safari support the <footer> tag.

Note:IE 8 or earlier versions of IE browsers do not support the <footer> tag.

Definition and Usage

The <footer> tag defines the footer of a document or a section of a document.

The <footer> element should contain information about its containing element.

In typical cases, this element will contain the name of the document creator, copyright information, links to terms of use, contact information, and so on.

In a document, you can define multiple <footer> elements.

Differences between HTML 4.01 and HTML5

The <footer> tag is a new tag in HTML 5.

Tip:If you use the <footer> element to insert contact information, you should use it inside the <footer> element<address>tag.
