Browser Support
All major browsers support the <acronym> tag.
Note:IE 5.5 or earlier versions of IE do not support the <acronym> tag.
Definition and Usage
HTML5 does not support the <acronym> tag. Please use the<abbr>tag instead.
The <acronym> tag defines an acronym.
If the acronym is a word, it can be read as a word, e.g., NATO, NASA, ASAP, GUI.
By marking up acronyms, you can provide useful information to browsers, spell checkers, translation systems, and search engine indexers.
Tips and Notes
Tip:In some browsers, when you move your mouse over an acronym marked with the <acronym> tag, the title attribute of the <acronym> tag can be used to display the full version of the acronym.
Differences Between HTML 4.01 and HTML5
HTML5 does not support the <acronym> tag, while HTML 4.01 supports the <acronym> tag.
