The datetime attribute has no visual effect in ordinary web browsers, but can be used by screen readers.

The datetime attribute specifies the date and time when the text was inserted or modified.

Attribute Values

Value Description
YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssTZD Specifies the date and time when the text was inserted or modified.

Component explanation:

  • YYYY - year (e.g., 2009)
  • MM - month (e.g., 01, meaning January)
  • DD - day of the month (e.g., 08)
  • T - required separator
  • hh - hour (e.g., 22, meaning 10.00 PM)
  • mm - minute (e.g., 55)
  • ss - second (e.g., 03)
  • TZD - time zone designator (Z means Zulu, which is also Greenwich Mean Time)
