Almost all mainstream browsers do not support the longdesc attribute.

Definition and Usage

HTML5 does not support the <iframe> longdesc attribute.

The longdesc attribute specifies a URL pointing to a page that contains a long description of the <iframe> content.

Note:Because browser support for the longdesc attribute is very poor, there is no need to use this attribute. If you need to provide a long description for an <iframe> (if necessary), simply create a link to the description page (the link is visible to everyone).

Attribute Values

Value Description
URL Specifies the URL of the page that describes the <iframe> content.

Possible values:

  • Absolute URL - points to another website (for example longdesc="http://www.example.com/description.txt")
  • Relative URL - points to a file within the website (for example longdesc="description.txt")
