Definition and Usage
The parent() method returns the direct parent element of the selected element.
DOM tree:This method only traverses a single level up the DOM tree. To traverse all the way up to the document root element (returning grandparent nodes or other ancestors), use theparents()orparentsUntil()method.
Tip:To traverse a single level down the DOM tree, or traverse all the way down to the last descendant (returning child nodes or other descendants), use thechildren()or find()method.
