Docker attach Command

Docker command reference

docker attachThe command is used to attach to the standard input, output, and error output (stdin, stdout, stderr) of a running Docker container. It allows users to interact directly with the container, just as they would with a running process.

Syntax

docker attach [OPTIONS] CONTAINER

Common Options

  • --detach-keys: Set a key sequence to detach from the container (e.g.,ctrl-c)。
  • --no-stdin: Do not attach standard input.
  • --sig-proxy: When a keyboard interrupt occurs, proxy the signal to the container (default is true).

Example

Attach to a running container:

docker attach my_container

Attach to the container named my_container, allowing the user to directly interact with the container's standard input, output, and error output.

Attach to the container and disable standard input:

docker attach --no-stdin my_container

Attach to the my_container container, but do not attach standard input.

Set the detach key sequence:

docker attach --detach-keys="ctrl-c" my_container

Attach to the my_container container and set ctrl-c as the detach key sequence.

Notes

  • If attaching to a container that already has other sessions attached, all sessions will share the same standard input, output, and error output. This means output from multiple sessions may be intermingled.
  • Usagedocker attachWhen interacting, you need to correctly set the detach key sequence to ensure you can safely detach without stopping the container.

Common Scenarios

  • Debugging and troubleshooting: Directly attach to a running container for debugging and troubleshooting.
  • Monitoring: View the output and logs inside the container in real time.
  • Interactive Operations: Use when you need to interact with applications inside the container.

docker attachThe command is a useful command in Docker that allows users to attach to a running container and interact with it. Through this command, users can view the container's output in real time, perform debugging and troubleshooting, and carry out other interactive operations. With appropriate options and detach key sequences, users can flexibly manage and control their interaction with the container.
