ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) is a computer character encoding system based on the Latin alphabet. It is mainly used to display modern English, while its extended version, Extended ASCII, can partially support other Western European languages and is equivalent to the international standard ISO/IEC 646.

ASCII was developed from telegraph codes. The first version of the standard was published in 1963, underwent a major revision in 1967

The numbering range of displayable characters is 32-126 (0x20-0x7E), for a total of 95 characters.

Control Characters

The numbering range of ASCII control characters is 0-31 and 127 (0x00-0x1F and 0x7F), for a total of 33 characters.
